Crusoe's Underwater Wedding
Congratulations to Michael & Margaret on their Wedding at Crusoe's Retreat!
Now, what makes their wedding so special? Well, Michael & Margaret chose to get married UNDERWATER! Its not every day that we get to host an underwater wedding - in fact, we think this is the first-ever wedding held underwater in Fiji!
On 3 March 2011, Don, Mesake, Narrelle & Saki traveled to our popular SCUBA diving site called "The Gap". It was there that they placed the floral arch, pulpit, and wedding supplies for the big event. At 9:00a, Mesaka escorted the Groom to the wedding site, while Sake (dressed in his traditional Fijian Warrior costume!) & Narrelle escorted the Bride, complete with white dive outfit and flowing veil, to the fanfare of fish around them. With laminated ceremony notes and wedding vows, along with wedding rings attached to lanyards, Michael & Margaret
exchanged both vows and rings while surrounded by loads of friendly marine life, including batfish, trigger fish, damsel fish, trevally, a school of tuna, Moorish Idols, trumpet fish, anthias, regal angelfish, banner fish, anemone fish and more!
After the exchange or rings and vows (and of course the underwater first kiss!), Michael & Margaret ascended to the surface to find the dive boat decorated with tropical flowers and plants. Celebrating with a champagne glass filled with lemonade, Mike & Margaret were so pleased that they had chosen this special place to start their new lives together.
Now, this was not Mike & Margaret's first visit to Crusoe's Retreat. They had visited with us previously and in fact had learned to dive with Don and his team at Dive Crusoe's. They were at first a bit concerned about learning to dive, but soon found out that it is both fun and exciting. When they decided to get married, they felt that an underwater wedding at Crusoe's Retreat was their ideal ceremony.
As part of their 'honeymoon' later that day, Mike & Margaret went out for a second dive, where they saw loads of marine life, including some local leopard sharks, turtles, and white tip sharks.
